Cloud and Virtualisation Survey Results 2016
For Think S3 that meant becoming 1 of the first Tier 1 CSP’s globally for Microsoft Azure. Azure perfectly complimented the work we are doing for our clients, who increasingly were assessing if a virtual, full cloud or hybrid based environment would help them achieve their goals of high performing IT service provision.
The Cloud and Virtualisation survey was ran at the end of 2015, the results offer an insight into what is driving the transition from traditional compute to the 3rd platform of compute Cloud.
What is motivating this change in infrastructure and where does virtualisation fit with this new model?
A couple of headlines came out of the survey that indicate the adoption of cloud is set to continue in 2016
Only 11% of Companies know if they are Cloud ready
On the face of it the suggestion is that Cloud is not really being looked at, other than by a few CIO’s. A little further digging and what we found was that nearly 80 % of the CIO’s we spoke to across the survey have already adopted some form of cloud service within their business.
Are CIO’s just dipping their toes in the water?
In a recent survey conducted at IPEXPO, view the report here, it becomes clear that the benefits of the cloud have not been lost in the UK, we have just required the confidence in the platform before really grasping the potential of cloud working with both hands, and the range of services you can grab is mind blowing.
None of this means virtualisation is going away, over 55% of respondents already have environments that are between 70-100% virtualised. Virtual platforms are trusted and proven to deliver on the promises made by the manufacturers and have continued to develop in to sleek and easy to use interfaces. Combining some of these management with the cloud has further enabled the speed of use that all companies crave when it comes to making changes quickly and efficiently without a loss of service. In fact the biggest pains that we see with clients these days are how they manage the growth of data and performance of the platform without impacting on the rest of the working day.
